Pediatric care - We have a large pediatric population. Our clinical staff is trained to attend to the needs of children and our physicians excel at addressing issues of wellness and also illness in children of all ages. We follow the recommendations of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics while treating our pediatric patients.
Adolescent care - As Family Physicians and/ or Nurse Practitioners, we have the privilege of caring for adolescents as they grow into adulthood. One of the advantages of seeking care with a family physician is that young children can easily transition into adolescence and young adulthood with the same provider that they have known for many years. This makes it easier for them to become comfortable with the providers throughout their lifetime.
Adult care - We provide comprehensive care to adults including acute care, care for chronic illnesses as well as health maintenance services. We encourage our patients to be active participants in their care and decision making.
Geriatric care - As family-oriented clinicians, we provide care to all ages. It is comforting for our elderly patients to know they have seen their provider for many years.
Annual wellness visit - This is an annual personalized prevention plan for patients over age 65 who are covered by traditional Medicare as well as Medicare Advantage plans. This highly recommended program aims to keep older patients healthy by preventing medical problems through a health risk assessment and/or by detecting them by age appropriate screening. Problem lists, current medications and current providers are updated; diet and exercise is discussed; depression, cognition, fall risk and alcohol and/or tobacco use is assessed; screening for colon, breast, prostate cancers and osteoporosis is scheduled. Vaccines are given and advance care planning services are discussed. Personalized health care advice and further evaluation and/or referrals for care may be recommended based on this assessment. During the COVID19 pandemic, this evaluation may be completed through Telemedicine.
Gynecologic care - We provide gynecologic care to women of all ages. In addition to routine gynecologic exams (including Pap smears and breast examinations) we treat acute gynecologic problems and provide ongoing womens health care. We are skilled in dealing with issues of sexuality, contraception and menopause.
Dermatologic care - We are able to treat many common skin problems including acne and rashes. We perform cryotherapy procedures on many types of keratoses and warts. We also perform biopsies of questionable skin lesions and surgical removal of certain cysts and moles.
Emergency care - We do provide some emergency services within the office including treatment of some lacerations and orthopedic injuries. We do ask that you call the office before coming in for an emergency as we need to assess whether an office visit is appropriate for your problem or if an emergency room visit is a better option.
Office Surgery - We do many minor office surgery procedures such as skin biopsy, removal of moles, excision of cysts, drainage of abscesses and repair of lacerations.
Orthopedic services - We can evaluate musculoskeletal problems, order x-rays when appropriate and initiate treatment for many orthopedic problems While we do not apply casts or do surgery, we can apply splints and treat other routine orthopedic problems.
Hospital Care - We admit children to the hospitalist service at Connecticut Childrens Medical Center and adults to specialist or hospitalist services at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center or if desired, to the hospitalist services at Hartford Hospital or UConn Health Center. Hospitalists specialize in caring for hospitalized patients and are at the hospital when patients need them. We communicate closely with the hospitalist during your hospital stay and help you make a smooth transition back to the community when you are better.
East Granby Family Practice, (EGFP) recognizes the importance that the coronavirus pandemic has had on everyone, including patients of our practice. This page is designed to conveniently keep you informed of new developments and provide links to reputable COVID information.
Updated COVID Vaccine Information from EGFP as of January 15, 2021
Our most recent information is that initial administration of the vaccine will be at predetermined locations throughout the state. Every patient will need to register in VAMS (Vaccine Administration Management System) of the CDC and then will be able to schedule an appointment. You may choose a location near your home. Phase 1B patients who are 75 and older are able to register to schedule appointments now. Other groups in Phase 1B will be able to register soon. Keep checking. Please go to https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/covid-19%20vaccinations, for more detailed information and to sign up on the VAMS system. We have registered to distribute the COVID vaccine to our patients in our office through the Department of Public Health (DPH). We do not know yet which vaccine will be available to be given in private doctors' offices, nor the exact timetable. We will be "invited" by the DPH to upload our roster of patients when they have vaccine for us. We have prepared all documents required and we are ready. Presently, vaccines are not being distributed through private offices, so please go to https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/covid-19%20vaccinations ,register and get the vaccine as soon as able.
Please call our office once you have received the vaccine so we may record it in you chart.
For more general information on vaccine distribution, go to https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations.html. Understand that each state may distribute the vaccine a bit differently from the general guidelines. For Connecticut specific information, go to https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/covid-19%20vaccinations.
If you feel you have symptoms of the COVID-19 illness, Symptoms of Coronavirus | CDC, then our policy is that you get tested before visiting the office. Although inconvenient, this protects the other patients and staff at EGFP. An infected patient or staff member could "shut down" the office, leaving patients with other conditions without care. This policy will continue at least until staff and patients have had the opportunity to be vaccinated. To find a convenient testing site, go to https://portal.ct.gov/coronavirus . Another link to at testing site near you is United Way 211 (211ct.org).
If you have had the COVID-19 illness, then you will need to postpone in-person office visits until 14 days have passed since the date of the positive test and 48 hours have passed since you have had symptoms. A Telemedicine visit (see below) is available if needed for medical care during this time.
In the meantime, please be careful during this period of the coronavirus pandemic. Wear a face covering or mask when out in public and keep your contacts with others brief. Practice social distancing and self isolation. Wash your hands well with soap and water often. Keep your immune system healthy by staying positive, stay hydrated, exercise in fresh air, avoid alcohol overuse and get plenty of sleep. Take your multivitamin and medications. Stay well.
